Brown Trout Fishing in Eksingedalen Cultivated Fishing Area
|
The 48 km long valley of Eksingedalen lies approximately 100 km to the northeast of Bergen, Norway’s second largest city. The distance from Voss is 56 km, which includes a mountain pass. The 7 km long cultivated area of the River Ekso is located in the middle of the valley, with Flatekval Falls in the west and Vetlegluppen Falls in the east. The upper part of this river section varies from rapids to calm areas. Encompassing long stretches of slow flowing water, the lower section of the cultivated area is thus best suited for boat fishing.
Since 2000, Ekso Villfisk and the local fishing organization have worked intensely with thinning out approximately 12,000 fish annually using fine-meshed nets. Additionally, Ekso Villfisk annually stocks the cultivated area with larger fish from its cultivation facility. A new year-round cultivation facility is now under construction. In 2007, the new facility will have the capacity to annually introduce 600-800 fish in the 500-800g range. We aim to create attractive and organized inland fishing that is unique. The goal of Ekso Villfisk is to make the cultivated section of the Ekso the best brown trout river in Western Norway, particularly for fly fishing. In July and August, dry fly fishing for leaping fish is the most typically used fishing technique, dependent on weather conditions, water height, hatching and temperature. This is an exciting type of sports fishing that often yields most fish both in terms of quantity and size. When you buy a fishing permit in the cultivation zone, you may use one of our four boats free of charge when these are available. You are also making an economic contribution to the work that is being carried out in the river. Ekso Villfisk also provides signs, marked paths, boat docks and visitor parking. The cultivated area will eventually become a separate zone with its own rules for fishing, which may be found on Ekso Villfisk’s info-boards and in the brochure that comes with the fishing permit. The Shop at Lavik is our main centre for information. For inquiries regarding fishing and reasonable overnight accommodations in cabins or Dalastova Pensjonat, please contact Bengt Eriksen at the Shop.
